Endodontics is one of the 9 specialty fields within dentistry, but there is no need to worry if you’ve never heard of it. The word endodontics is composed of 2 different parts— “endo,” which means inside, and “odont” (tooth). That said, endodontics focuses on the health and treatment of oral health issues that affect the inside of the tooth. Types of Endodontic Treatments
Endodontics has a variety of dental treatments to help you maintain a healthy and functioning smile. In most cases, these services get you out of pain, and they become necessary when decay or infection reaches the inner portion of your tooth called dental pulp. Root canal therapy is the most common of these treatments, but we also offer other options, including:
- Pulpotomy: The removal of pulp and nerve from your child’s primary teeth, allowing your kid to maintain their baby teeth until their adult ones grow in.
- Root canal therapy: This nonsurgical treatment removes infected tissue from your tooth while maintaining your dental structure, protecting and strengthening your smile in the process.
- Endodontic treatment: When a root canal isn’t enough, we may be able to save your tooth with surgical retreatment. In some cases, we can remove a small portion of the tooth root to extract the damaged or infected dental pulp.

Introducing Dr. Leavell
It’s not often that you can get exceptional endodontic treatments at the same location as your routine checkups and cleanings, but Dr. Leavell makes it possible. She completed her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at Tufts University in 2012 before entering a 2-year specialty residency in Endodontics at the University of Florida College of Dentistry. She also earned a Master of Science degree with research focusing on endodontic irrigation protocols during her training. Today, she uses her extensive educational background to treat even the toughest of cases, helping patients get out of pain and back to smiling.
