An implant denture has two main components: the denture and the implant posts. The denture acts as your replacement teeth and is designed to look as natural as possible in your mouth. Meanwhile, the implant posts function as artificial tooth roots; not only do they keep the prosthesis anchored in place, but they can stimulate the jawbone to prevent tooth loss.

Some implant dentures are permanently fixed in place, while others can be removed at any time. Our team will work with you to determine which option is the best fit for your situation.

Fixed/Permanent Implant Dentures

Fixed implant dentures usually need about four to eight implant posts, and they can only be placed if a certain level of bone density is present. Since your implant denture will stay in your mouth at all times, you will be able to clean it by brushing and flossing, effectively giving it the same care that you would give to your natural teeth.

Removable Implant Dentures

Removable implant dentures are often recommended for patients with lower levels of bone density since they typically only require two to five implant posts. You will need to take your removable implant denture out of your mouth in order to clean it.

An initial consultation will be held to make sure that you’re able to receive dental implants. Preliminary treatments such as bone grafting may be performed to prepare the mouth and jaw. Then, a relatively simple surgery will be carried out to place the implant posts in the jaw at specific locations.

After about three to six months, the implant posts will finish fusing with the jawbone, at which point metal connector pieces called abutments can be placed. We’ll then be able to design your final denture. When the prosthesis is complete, it will be attached to the posts with the help of the abutments.

Implant dentures can be the next best thing to getting your natural teeth back. Not only are they lifelike, but they are also very comfortable to wear. On top of that, they do not slip out of place the way traditional dentures sometimes do, and they’re relatively easy to take care of. And when it comes to longevity, it’s not unheard of for implant dentures to last for decades.
